Official start of AQUAVALENS

A new EU-Project "AQUAVALENS - Protecting the health of Europeans by improving methods for the detection of pathogens in drinking water and water used in food preparation" was officially started by February 1, 2013.

the aim of AQUAVALENS ist he development of novel methods for the detection and quantification of pathogenic microorganisms and faecal bacteria in drinking water.

The ICC Water & Health is involved in two topics within this project. The group of Dr. Farnleitner is dealing with the development of new molecular biological microbial source tracking detection systems. The group of Dr. Kirschner is dealing with the cell based detection of pathogens via fluorescence microscopy and solid-phase cytometry. Totally, more than 50 Institutions from whole Europe are participating in this project during the next 5 years; the total funding is more than 8.5 Mio €.
