Poster Award to Thomas Glassner at the HOW-DEAD-IS-DEAD?-2017 Conference

In the frame of the 5. HOW-DEAD-IS-DEAD? Conference that took place in Vienna from Sep 6-8, Thomas Glassner (working group Alexander Kirschner) was awarded the shared 2nd best poster prize. This international conference series points to the difficulties of defining and proving the borders of bacterial life and death, and the consequences of these problems as regards its relevance for human and animal health but also for the functioning of technical and natural ecosystems.

In his diploma thesis Thomas is working on the “Cultivation-independent diagnostics of microbial contamination of explanted knee and hip prostheses from sonication fluids” and has presented his results on the poster and in a short oral presentation.

The poster prize was sponsored by the „German Association for General and Applied Microbiology” (VAAM) and awarded by Prof. Dr. Bernd Bendinger (Univ. Hamburg-Harburg) after selection by an 11-person international poster committee. The first prize went to Lisa Neu (EAWAG, Switzerland) for her poster „Bacterial Viability Assessment“, and the shared 2nd prize went to Stefanie Imminger (DOME, University Vienna) for her Poster “Single-cell level activity measurements in terrestrial ecosystems”.
