UrbanBlueHealth - Joint central European actions for improving quality of urban bathing waters
The use of urban waters for recreational purposes increases, especially during hot summers. At the same time, studies show that only 65% of urban surface waters meet minimum quality standards.
UrbanBlueHealth brings together science, cities, and health authorities to sustainably improve the quality of urban bathing waters in Central Europe. The aim is to reduce health risks from polluted water while creating attractive recreational areas for the urban population.
Modern monitoring systems, digital analysis tools, and nature-based purification measures are being tested in several pilot cities. The focus is not only on technical quality, but also on raising awareness: the population should be better informed about how weather, the environment, and usage affect water quality.
The findings are fed into the Blue Health Repository, a digital knowledge platform that provides cities with best practices, data, and recommendations. In this way, UrbanBlueHealth supports the sustainable transition to safe, clean, and healthy urban bathing resorts.
